| The Batson Family in Wiggins, Mississippi has been involved in the cattle business since the 1850's. For over 4 generations, the family has been breeding quality cattle on the same ranch.
In the 1960's, ABC Cattle Company, owned and operated by Archie and Sue Batson with their children Kim, Shep, and Brandy, was breeding primarily English Bred cattle with Brahman Bulls. Archie purchased an unregistered polled Brahman bull. The progeny from horned cattle resulted in polled offspring.
In the early 1970's, the Batson Family started the hunt for polled genetics in the Brahman breed. They started their herd with registered horned Brahman cattle. In 1974, Archie acquired the first registered polled Brahman cows from Mr. "Geech" Partin of Heart Bar Ranch in Florida.These twelve cows were bred to registered horned Brahman Bulls. In 1975, he purchased two registered Brahman heifers and two registered Brahman bull calves from JC Ranch in Texas. In 1978, Archie obtained the registered polled Brahman Bull, LH 3, from Mr. Leslie Handlon of LH Ranch in California. These acquisitions laid the solid foundation for their registered polled Brahman herd today.
In the 1980's, Archie and Sue Batson maintained the registered horned Brahman cattle while allowing the children to operate the registered Brahman polled cattle under the brand KBS. It was during this time that the overall quality of the herd was improved through the application of solid horned genetics. LH 3 was the last outside polled genetics introduced into the herd until 2001.
In 2001, Shep and Tracey Batson restructured the registered polled Brahman cattle herd as Rocking B Cattle Ranch. With the purchase of a registered polled Brahman bull, JME Mr. Esto 28/8 from Mr. J.M. Edwards, Jr. of Edwards Brahmans in Florida, they revolutionized the polled Brahman business as this bull appears to be homozygous. JME Mr. Esto 28/8 has over 300 progeny from registered horned Brahman Cattle with 100% POLLED RESULTS!
In 2004, Rocking B Cattle formed a partnership with Mr. Rick Carter of Black Jack Ranch in Mississippi to acquire ten J.D. Hudgins heifers. The results of this cross with JME Mr. Esto 28/8 are outstanding and 100% Polled.
Rocking B Cattle is committed to produce top-quality polled genetics
through the continued cultivation of their breeding program.
|:: 2013 Deep South Brahman Field Day|
|Rocking B Cattle was honored to host the 2013 Deep South Brahman Field Day and Junior Show this year. This two-day event featured some great cattle, people, and food. We had a spectacular turnout of over 100 Brahman enthusiasts who enjoyed a judging completion, youth and adult meeting, and a junior show.
Rocking B Cattle donated a calf to be given to a junior through a random drawing, and Emily Parker was the winner!
Showmanship winners included: Harvey Mitchell, Leigh Ann Howe, Morgan Pounds, and M’Lee Ivy.
Morgan Pounds earned the honor of Grand Champion Bull with RLB Mr.288 and Reagan Batson was awarded Grand Champion Female and Grand Champion Bred and Owned Female with RBC Miss Maddie J 593 (P). Trenton Howe secured the coveted spot of Grand Champion Bred and Owned Bull with Mr. HF 2/12 (P).
We really hit our mark this year to provide a fun, laid-back day for our members, and especially our youth with water activities and casual attire. Deep South Brahman Association really knows how to take the heat!
Many thanks go out to all the fabulous sponsors and individuals who made these days a roaring success! Times like this compile wonderful memories that will linger with us for years to come!
|:: 2012 stone county fair
|The 2012 Stone County Fair was a much anticipated event in the Batson Household. The parade kicked us off with our own Shep Batson as Grand Marshal. Hadley stepped into the ring for the second official time as a 4H eligible showman making a clean sweep with grand champion Brahman bull and supreme overall not to mention winning her Showmanship class. Big sister, Reagan, could not be outdone winning overall Showmanship for the junior division and grand champion Brahman heifer. Little sister, Arrah Beth, enjoyed seeing her sisters show and being able to ride the rides.
|We followed the County Fair right on up to the state level in Jackson where we continued to make memories that will follow us for years to come. Reagan won her division Showmanship this year and Hadley won her Brahman bull class. We were able to visit with our friends from all over the state, ate some great food, and enjoyed all the activities that the Mississippi State Fair has to offer.
